Employment Opportunities

AI Inc. is a Champions PBEM game, but is something of a departure for me.  The players are 200 points, (100+100) yet they possess very limited paranormal abilities. The game takes place in San Francisco of the Golden Hawks Universe, and is, in some ways, a spin-off of the Golden Gate Guardians game.

The game will feature either one, two, or three investigators at a time usually, depending on what my plot calls for. There will be a total of six players in the game at a time, however, though obviously there will be large gaps when individuals will not be participating.  There will also be times when all six players may be involved at a time,  but this new style will hopefully allow for more in-depth character growth as well as more free time for all involved.

At this time, I will not be making a general call for players, for all slots are currently spoken for. I will create a waiting list for this game, however, and lurkers who e-mail me with thoughtful  comments and questions are always favored.

  • Normal Human Characteristic Maxima is assumed, and no points will be given for it.
  • Only 75 points may be spent on paranormal abilities, with an active limit of 50 points.  Not all of these points need be used.
  • Players must work with me on background before I ever see the character itself (unsolicited characters will be summarily ignored.)
  • I expect that characters' viewpoints on paranormal issues will in some ways reflect the views of the greater populace -- "superhero" style paranormals are viewed with suspicion by most, and paranormals who don't "play God" will likely be as sketical as those without powers.

Creating a character background:

What I would like to see from players are character backgrounds which incorporate all of the following questions, as well as a quote, quirks, appearance, etc. in the standard Hero (and G3) format. Players who (after approval) submit character sheets, backgrounds, NPC files, etc. in HTML format get ten bonus points to be spent raising pre-existing skills.

Players who submit HTML files to me for these bonus skill points must follow the same resume, background, character sheet format as established with the currently posted NPCs.

These questions must be answered, in one form or another, within the resume and detailed background.

  • What is the color of the character's hair, eyes, and skin?
  • What is the character's general appearance? Does the character stand erect or stooped? Dress anachronistically, stylishly, or inauspiciously? Look intimidating or casual? What might someone seeing the character for the first time think?
  • Where was the character born?
  • What is the character's age?
  • What was the character's family?
  • Has the character begun his own family?
  • When or how was the character educated?
  • Has the character ever done anything else for a living?
  • What about the character's political and religious beliefs?
  • What is the character's moral code?
  • Does the character have any goals?
  • What is the character's personality?
  • What special qualities does the character possess? This doesn't necessarily refer to skills, but to what the character can do well. Does he get along well with other people? Is he skilled at taking care of business? Prioritizing tasks? Planning ahead?
  • Are there certain things the character just cannot do? Get close to people? Perceive himself realistically?
  • What does the character hate?
  • What does the character love?
  • What is the character's full name? Nicknames?
  • How does the character percieve government? Those who are opposed to the government?
  • What type of car does the character drive?
  • What are the character's hobbies?
  • Who are the character's friends?

House Rules

I have a few House Rules regarding character generation/play. Most of these won't affect PBEM, but, for your enjoyment:

  • Luck is as per GURPS -- fifteen points, and the player gets to reroll (twice) one roll per hour and take the best of the three.
  • In my games, that is once every chronological hour (i.e., 2-3, 5-6, 9-10). If a player uses his luck at 8:57, it can be used at 9:00, but he then must wait until after 10.
  • All players have their base mental defense without paying points. However, there is no bonus once points are paid for mental defense.
  • Dive-for-cover only works against area affect/explosions.
  • Most professional skills are based from Characteristics (Lawyer: PRE, Doctor: INT, Racecar driver: DEX). Electronics and most other general skills are INT based. This doesn't include Ventriloquism or Mimicry, however.
